The House
Lanier House occupies an 11,638-square-foot Beaux-Arts landmark at 123 East 35th Street in Murray Hill. Designed by Hoppin & Koen — architects trained at the École des Beaux-Arts and alumni of McKim, Mead & White.
Constructed between 1901 and 1903 for the banker James F. D. Lanier. Designated a New York City Individual Landmark in 1979.

Construction begins for James F. D. Lanier, banker, and his wife Harriet.
1903
The house is completed. Hoppin & Koen deliver the Beaux-Arts façade intact.
1920s
The mansion passes through two generations of private ownership, the interiors largely preserved.
1979
Designated a New York City Individual Landmark by the Landmarks Preservation Commission.
Today
Kept privately. Opened by invitation for occasions that require a room with a memory.
